I did the master cleanse for ten days about a month ago and it was great; I had no issues while on it. The only problem I've had is that ever since I got off it, I've hardly been able to have a bowel movement on my own. I have to take these pills from the health-food store called Super Cleanse and take Bentonite clay just to have regular bowel movements. If I don't do that, I may have a bowel movement once every 3-4 days, while before the cleanse I'd have one once a day or more. I feel so bloated, but my bowels just aren't moving.

Has the cleanse just perhaps obliterated my intestinal flora, or is it possible the laxative has messed up my colon? Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I want to go on the cleanse again but I'm a little apprehensive because of this.

I should also add that I have a fairly optimal, vegan diet. No meat, dairy, soy, or grains. My diet consists of fruits and vegetables, nuts, oils, and legumes. I get plenty of fiber; this should not be happening!

Hi! I suggest you make a magic leek soup. This is the recipe from the book French Women Don't Get Fat. When I did it, I didn't even follow the direction completely. I used a organic low sodium vegetable stock from Trader Joe's instead of water. I had the soup in the morning and eat something else and had the soup all throughout the day. It was very successful in keeping my BM going. Just a little tip about the leeks, but the organic fresh uncut ones instead of the cut packaged one. The fragrance of the fresh ones are incomparable to packed ones. And it's also of course more effective in cleansing.

Did that only help you the day you ate it, or afterward as well?

I can't really tell since I'm almost regular. It made me feel gassy too so I farted a lot. You should try to incorporate it with you meals if you don't want to do it on 2 full days. Running also helped during those times that I'm not so regular. Mind you, I'm not fond of exercising so when I say run I mean jog for 5-10 mins then walk then jog again.

What you need to be taking at least temporarily is Psyllium seed husks to give yourself some fiber. This is great after the cleanse as it is bulk. It seems you might have been taking this with the bentonite?

In addition if you were just off the cleanse and then you did the bentonite also, you need flora (good bacteria) in the form of a probiotic, and you probably need to take them for at least a few months. So you are partially correct, you do need these.

Acronyms I often use:
LA - lemonade drink
BM - bowel movement
SWF - salt water flush
MC - Master Cleanse
MC - menstrual cycle

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have any diseases or are taking medication talk to your doctor.

If you do not have the book, buy it!

marisa922, how much water are you drinking a day ? With a high fiber diet you may require more water... Try drinking a couple a glass of water at one time... This has worked for me...

One thing that flew up a red flag for me was the nuts. For me, while eating raw, when I'd eat too many nuts I would become constipated immediately.

 Instead of taking pills, try some dried figs & prunes. They are nature's own laxative

I do put psyllium in the Bentonite shakes, but my diet has so much fiber already!

I'm not even taking proboiotics ever day, so maybe that's my problem.

Always more than one liter but always less than two. Maybe I need two full liters?

I do eat a lot of nuts, actually, a lot of protein in general from nuts and beans. I thought those things were fibrous!

If you don't want to take probiotic,
eat yogurt with live culture or drink kefir milk.

I don't remember about my last detoxing but I did not get the regular bowel also
and then it just comes back to normal.. I was on MC for 20 days.
