this is an old post, but i will respond anyway. you were experiencing a healing crisis more than likely.
which is a good thing during a fast. the key is not to break your fast in the middle of it as you might exacerbate symptoms. if you can think back in your life, how and when have you experienced heartburn? i suspect there is probably an emotional connection if you delve deep enough. given the length of your cleanse, 33 days, your body was bringing it to the surface for healing.. that is all of the emotional and physical attachments. what is heartburn? has to do with excess acid in the stomach and poor digestion right? so there may be a clue to your answer. cayenne pepper ironically was healing your heartburn. cayenne clears mucus and in my own experience also helps right acidic imbalances in the stomach and other components/organs of the digestive system.
IMPORTANT NOTE: always use your own judgement, intuition and tap into your body's innate heaing information to determine if it's signaling for you to break your fast or continue your cleanse. also you should if at all possible, make sure you are well enough to fast and have proper nutrition stores to fast before proceeding in my opinion only.
this information is not medical advice, just holistic information gained from personal experience.
hope you're doing well presently.
