Hey everyone!

Day 1 of my MC is just about over, so I thought I'd get going and set up a little pagey dealie here. :D

BACKGROUND

I'm new to this forum, so here's a little background info on me. This is my 10th or 11th or 12th MC (I lost track), though it's been a couple of years since my last one. I usually like to do about one a year to stay focused on healthy eating and keep the ol' weight under control (if I can get through the first day without accidentally cramming nachos in my face). Metabolism is a bit of a wistful memory for me at 39, so I've gotta keep an eye on things so they don't spiral out of control.

I've been a vegetarian for 24 years, which just means I haven't eaten meat for a really long time and am at least cursorily aware of nutrition and balanced eating. Then about 10 years ago I went vegan, which was a life-changing experience. I lost about 30 pounds without even trying and my energy went through the roof. The last couple of years I've fallen off the wagon pretty hard though, mostly because my lovely carnivorous, cheese-addicted boyfriend loves to cook for me and I love to let him (hence CHEESE IN EVERYTHING). I also loathe cooking for some reason, so I'm usually all about the yummiest thing that'll take the least time to prepare... like a giant burrito from the local taqueria.

I live alone, don't have kids, work from home, and my job is stressful AF. So there's a lot of leeway for lazy habit-forming! I do take an hour-long walk every day to decompress, but my #2 stress reliever is bingeing on Netflix and carb-laden comfort foods.

MOTIVATION

My biggest motivator to start the MC is that I finally found my stupid scale! (I moved 6 months ago and half my stuff is still in boxes.) But really, I've been gaining weight these last few months like crazy - 23 pounds since I weighed myself before I moved, which is insane. My clothes aren't fitting and I'm feeling round, lethargic, unattractive, and mildly ill all the time. Enough is enough!

In addition to weight loss, I'm also motivated to get my appetites under control again. Seriously, nothing compared to how great I felt when I was eating healthy and cutting out dairy and excess sugar, caffeine, and alcohol.

I also want to get my alcohol consumption under control, which I'm ashamed to admit is probably the biggest reason my weight has increased so rapidly over the last few months. I only drink on the weekend (on account of the crazy demanding job), but I've been relying on it FAR too heavily to help me relax, de-stress, and be social.

GOALS

I don't know how many days I'll go for yet because it'll really depend on how much weight I can drop and how soon I start to feel better. 10 days minimum for sure, but I'm thinking/hoping it'll probably be 20 or more.

I want to drop those 36 extra pounds, regain my health and energy, and get excited to restart my vegan diet again. Oh, and keep it to just a couple beers on the weekends! I have a specific pair of old-school jeans (the kind with no give) that will be my barometer, alongside the stupid scale. I can get the jeans mostly on, but not all the way up... and buttoning ain't happening.

STARTING STATS

Height: 5'10"
Weight: 186.4 lbs
Energy: 40%
Wellness: 50%
Hunger: 110%
Lemonade ratio: 2 tbsp fresh juice, 1 tbsp maple syrup, 1 pinch cayenne per 10 oz of water
SWF ratio: 3 tsp salt per quart of water

DAY ONE IN THE CAN

Lemonades drunk: 6
Steps walked: 8160
Brisk cardio: 72 min

I got so sick of hand-squeezing lemons on my last few cleanses, I finally sprung for a grown-up citrus juicer. It works great! So excited!! I also bought about 30 lemons, 6 grapefruits, a giant tub of Grade B maple syrup, and a fresh tower of sea salt. Already have the cayenne and Smooth Move tea.

Squeezed all the lemons and two grapefruits (I like to mix up my citruses a bit), and made a few lemonades today. Down the hatch!

Getting ready to take my walk, then I'll have a cup of SM tea before bed. Totally got busy with work and didn't get a chance to do the SWF this morning, but should be able to tomorrow morning after I hydrate.

Thanks for reading this ridiculously long post! Looking forward to reading up on others' stories and progress, and keeping each other motivated! WTG fellow MCers!

DAY 2

Weight: 181.6 lbs
Energy: 20%
Wellness: 60%
Hunger: 150%
Steps walked: 3908
Brisk cardio: 36 min

Oh boy, today has been tough. Woke up, weighed myself (lost 4.8 lbs of water weight - woo hoo!!!), hydrated, and salt water flushed. For the first time ever (and I'd say I've done about 100 SWFs), I got so nauseous I almost vomited. Managed to keep it down somehow, but it really slowed me down so I had to delay lemonade until well after noon. Tomorrow I'll have to start the SWF earlier.

Energy has been really low today, mostly because of some difficult news that's had me on an emotional rollercoaster all day (i.e., lots of crying). ALL I WANT TO DO is drown my sorrows in carb bingeing, but that's the exact habit I'm trying to break so I have to be strong. It's SO tempting to just quit and try again later when everything's going well... but then again, life is way too unpredictable. At that rate, I'd never get past day 5!

Physically, I feel better than I did yesterday, even if my energy's completely tanked. I almost skipped my walk but decided to do a short one instead since it always clears my head and helps me feel better.

It's only 8pm but I'm so tired I'm about to fall out of my chair, so off to brew my senna tea and hit the sack early. Goodnight all!

Hi Violette!
I saw your response on another page about drinking unfiltered apple juice instead of SWF and I'm intrigued! I'm not new to the MC and this is the first time I've heard of that! How much of it do you drink for the flush?

Day 6 here.
-10.2 lbs. Yay!!

Hi MelBolt!

Wow, Day 6 - congratulations!! :D

Yeah, I accidentally discovered once that (heavy) unfiltered apple juice or cider works just like the SWF. Though I should point out this isn't an official Stanley Burroughs sanctioned substitute or anything like that. At the end of an MC once, I didn't have any orange juice so I broke my cleanse with unfiltered apple juice... and lo and behold, very SWF-like cleansing took place!

I've tried substituting the juice for the SWF from the beginning and it just doesn't work. I only seems to work properly after around days 4 or 5, when digestion has shut down and your system is used to eliminating liquids by weight.

I'm only on day 3 so I haven't done it yet on this cleanse, but plan to in a few days and will post results!

DAY 3

Weight: no change
Energy: 60%
Wellness: 60%
Hunger: 100%
Steps walked: 6948
Brisk cardio: 65 min

Today was much better - more energy and feeling clear. I slept okay, but was pretty groggy when I got up. Took awhile to get going today too. My face and eyes were super puffy, which happens sometimes the day after a SWF. My body loves to absorb half the salt and flush the rest, so I decided to skip the SWF today and drink an extra SM tea instead. No change in weight, so I'm clearly holding onto some water.

Still pretty hungry today and fighting lots of terrible cravings. I came pretty close to caving today, but drank a huge glass of water instead and gave myself a little pep talk.

Went for my walk but ended up running out of steam halfway through and cut a few corners. Probably shaved about 10 minutes off. Now feeling pretty tired and ready for SM tea and lots of sleep!

Thank you, Violette!
I'm too nervous to try it...and I'm a bit of a MC purist. Ha!
But, I'm definitely intrigued! Maybe I'll try it the morning after my last day!

Good job making past Day 3!
I always feel like those first 3 days are the hardest. It'd be so easy to give up, but pushing through is worth it!
I hope Day 4 brings less cravings and more energy!

Post subject:  Re: Violette's Cleanse-o-Rama

Hey Mel!

I totally understand about the purity thing... I've tweaked the MC so many times because I figured it would help or make things easier, but oftentimes it just ended up making things harder or less effective. Hahaha oops!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Days 1-3 are always the toughest for me, by far. I actually came pretty close to caving to the cravings, but then I thought about how I'd have to be accountable for it on this forum and that helped me back away!

Congratulations on your progress and good luck at your dinner! :D

DAY 4

Weight: 179.6
Energy: 70%
Wellness: 70%
Hunger: 100%

Down 2 more pounds today, hooray! I'm only halfway through my day, but so far I've got plenty of energy and feeling pretty good overall. The only problem is this dang hunger... still getting intense hunger pangs, regardless of how much lemonade I'm drinking. Usually the first couple of days I'm pretty hungry, but it tapers off by days 3 and 4... not this time.

I didn't have time to do the SWF again this morning, so I might do it in the evening or skip it again. It does feel nice not to wake up so puffy and bloated from the salt.

My biggest concern right now is the July 4th weekend with all the fun social stuff and my hunger. If I weren't so hungry, it wouldn't be much of an issue, but right now I don't trust myself not to grab food out of people's hands and jam it in my mouth (okay, not REALLY, but you know...).

Gonna try hard not to cave, but if I DO, I've promised myself it'll be with nice clean veggies... brain, did you hear that?? Veggies only! Speaking of which, I heard about this guy in Australia who's only eating potatoes for a year. He's about 6 months in and already lost a ton of weight and is doing fantastic health-wise. Google "Spud Fit" to find his website and YouTube videos. I'm intrigued by this because a) potatoes are my most favorite food in all of the world, and b) if I can't get a handle on this hunger, perhaps a 30-day potato diet might be a good backup plan. I dunno, we'll see.

Haven't taken a walk yet, but hope to do so later tonight. Happy 4th everyone!

You can do it! Stay strong!
You'll be so glad you did come Tuesday!

Have you heard of The Starch Solution? It's NUTS.
Rice and potatoes!
I'm totally going to Google the potato guy now. :)

DAY 5

Weight: 177.8
Energy: 80%
Wellness: 80%
Hunger: 100%

Thanks MelBolt and WeightZen! I so appreciate the encouragement!! Still hanging in there for now! Down almost 2 more pounds and my energy level and overall health continue to improve. Last night I was able to fall asleep without melatonin for the first time in years. I've had severe chronic insomnia my entire life and literally CANNOT fall asleep without it. Except last night, just dropped right off and slept the ENTIRE night like a log! So exciting!

Today I decided to try the unfiltered apple juice in place of the SWF - got up, didn't drink any water, and jugged a quart. Made sure to shake up the bottle real well so all the sediment made it into the juice. And, well... it worked like a charm!! Woo hoo! And no salt bloating for me, yippee!

My entire block smells like a giant barbecue and I'm still soooo hungry. There's a pretty good chance I'll cave this weekend, but if I do, oh well. There's always Tuesday!

Didn't get a chance to take a walk today but ended up moving a bunch of furniture and running around town all day, so I definitely got a good dose of exercise. Now I'm feeling just about ready for bedtime... with no melatonin either! :P

Cheers!

Good job Violette! You seem to be doing really well!
Interesting about the unfiltered apple juice, I'll have to try it out since the SWF often doesn't work for me.
I am just starting my Cleanse today. I really hope to go at least ten days. The longest I have gone on this cleanse is 17 days, but that was about 3 years ago, and I have only done a 10 day one since. I feel like this forum will help this time around! :)

Post subject:  Re: Violette's Cleanse-o-Rama

Thanks mygag! You must be on day 2 now - way to go and happy cleansing! The SWF doesn't work for some people (like me) because we need more than 2 tsps of sea salt per quart of water. The salt mixture needs to be heavier than our particular blood gravity, which is a little different for everyone. I personally need 2 3/4 to 3 tsps of salt for it to work, which is pretty unbearable, and my body STILL ends up absorbing a bunch of the salt and retaining water. Also, those with high blood pressure should not be doing the SWF at all, according to many doctors. So the unfiltered apple juice idea might work for those of us with SWF difficulties! But remember - it only works after about 4 or 5 days of faithful cleansing and elimination.

As everyone can probably guess, I totally fell off the wagon on July 4th (ate a salad and boy was it GOOD). It was totally worth it - I had an awesome day with friends and was still soooo hungry (what gives with that, btw??) and didn't feel like torturing myself all day. I didn't do anything different than I normally do with this cleans, but I stayed ravenously hungry the entire time I was cleansing. No way can I make it 10 days like that, so I'll have to reevaluate and see what else I can do.

The good news is that I've been super mindful about everything I eat and drink, and have happily stayed on track with my vegan diet and no bingeing! I'm exercising regularly and very slowly continuing to lose weight, so maybe this short cleanse was all I needed. We'll see - I hate the feeling of only finishing things halfway... but then again, I have no intention of feeling starved for days on end either.

Happy cleansing everyone!
