Hi MM,
Thanks for the tip. I do think I need more exercise, I've just been nervous about overdoing it. I think I'll go for it tonight so if I'm pooped after it won't matter. That's probably partly what's been adding to my foul mood, lack of movement. Thanks!

Day 5 - 9/24/2009
Starting weight: 138.5
Today's weight: 132.0 (down 1 pound)
Starting waist meas: 31.25 inches
Tody's waist meas: 30.0
Goal weight: ~110 to 120
Pounds lost: 6.5
Pounds to go: 12.0 +
Exercise: none

Day 5 almost done. I'm almost on my way to bed so can't imagine I won't make it through :) I am getting more tempted by food - this is when I can start hearing my brain try to justify having some food. So I have to refocus and stay strong. I haven't really had many eliminations over the past days so I need to do the SWF again to make sure I'm getting the toxins out. I won't be able to do tomorrow, but I can on Sat. and Sun.

I'm going to post to the questions section of the forum, but I was wondering if anyone has seen acne improvement with the MC. I have been using prescription medications for quite a while and suddenly wondered what my skin would do now, after all this time, if I didn't use them. They are topical stuff for the most part, but I've taken pills for really bad flare ups. I figured since I am cleansing the inside of my body, why would I put chemicals on my skin? It's only been a couple of days since I stopped the meds and at first my skin was super oily. I imagine the meds were drying too - causing my skin to produce extra oil or something. My skin was broken out when I stopped the meds so it's hard to compare - but I'm wondering if the all-natural products I bought will be able to get my skin back in balance and allow it to heal/clear up. If it doesn't start to clear up pretty quickly, I'm afraid I'll go back to meds - I just hate having acne all over my face.

I've heard different view points on acne. One is that it is hormonal and this causes clogging of the hair folicles. This seems like something that would be hard to solve - I mean, how do you control hormones? I know that birth control pills are said to be effective, but I don't like taking medications unless really necessary. And I don't want to take birth control pills for the primary reason of controlling hormones to clear up my skin.

The other view point on acne that I have read is that it is caused by toxins and build up in the colon, etc. Acne is the skin pushing toxins out of the body. I'm not sure I buy this one. I mean, of course your skin will look better if you are healthy on the inside. But I grew up with a sister - we ate basically the same stuff, lived in the same environment - and I had acne and she didn't. So I do kind of lean toward the hereditary thing - like the genes I got happen to cause my hormones to be out of whack and cause me to have acne.

Anyway - I know this isn't really cleanse related per se. It is one step for me to become as natural as possible inside and out. And using natural skin care products and stopping with the meds/chemicals seems like something that I want. But if it turns out that the only way to control my acne is with meds, I will do it. Life is too short to say "I want to be natural so I'm just going to be embarrassed by my face." Not worth it...

Okay, I really rambled on here - sorry! Thank you for taking the time to read and wish you much peace.

:)

Day 6 - 9/25/2009
Starting weight: 138.5
Today's weight: 130.0 (down 2 pounds)
Starting waist meas: 31.25 inches
Tody's waist meas: ?
Goal weight: ~110 to 120
Pounds lost: 8.5
Pounds to go: 10.0 +
Exercise: none

Hi everyone - Making through Day 6 here. Was at a meeting with a customer today and they ordered in pizza and salad. I wasn't over-the-top upset about not being able to eat them, but it was a little annoying thinking about how long it will be before I can enjoy food again. I am making great progress so I really want to hang in there. I keep telling myself that food may taste good now, but being thin and healthy and clean will feel better! So I hope I have the strength to deal with the smells and temptations.

I haven't been having BMs so I need to do a SWF tomorrow. I haven't done one since Day 1. Partly due to having to leave early in the morning for work stuff and couldn't hang out and wait for the SWF to work :) Tomorrow is Sat so I'll have the time - and be able to stay close to a toilet - hehe.

Is anyone doing wheatgrass shots while on the cleanse? I haven't done this before, but am thinking about adding a shot to my day. It is potent stuff and seems like it would help speed up any detox.

Well, have a good night everyone. And ENJOY your weekend!!

Sadietheferret - Did you try to exercise? Was curious as to how you felt after. Hope you're doing well and hanging in there!

Hi MM,
I had gone swimming on the 2nd and 4th days and not felt tired after but last night I jogged, just about 20 minutes alternating with steep hill climbs. I felt great while I was doing it. I was surprisingly a little sore in the quads today but other than that ok. I'm definitely waiting till I have something more substantial (as in, actual food) in me before I try to lift weights or do any serious exercise though. There is no way I can build muscle on such limited calories and I don't really need to burn any more right? LOL I'm very much looking forward to getting into a workout routine though. I've been planning my workouts :D Mood definitely improved as well. End of day 6, hooray for us!

Marsha -

How did I toootally miss your blog! We started on the same day too ^_^!

Your blog is an enjoying read because it is sweet, short, and straight to the point. Unlike mine where I freely ramble on and on..maybe because it's my first cleanse and I am documenting the hell out of it..anyway!

Great job on the loss's and I too am feeling just what you feel, more temptation by food. Last night I guinea pig'd the boyfriend with a very green soup I spent hours chopping stuff up for... I had to taste it just to see if it tasted any good. Sure I spat it out prompty after tasting, but still. Just like you I find myself refocusing every soo often.

Keep it up - glad to see there is another person that started on 9/20 - woohoo! You're doing fantabulous dear! 8) :P

Day 7 - 9/26/2009
Starting weight: 138.5
Today's weight: 129.5 (down .5 pounds)
Starting waist meas: 31.25 inches
Tody's waist meas: ?
Goal weight: ~110 to 120
Pounds lost: 9
Pounds to go: 9.5 +
Exercise: 60 min run/jog

Today was my first exercise on this cleanse - a 60 min run. I think I'll do it again tomorrow. I felt so good today. Just in a great mood. Feeling very happy. Not sure if that is because I'm at a point in the cleanse that is producing this feeling - or it is was endorphins from the exercise. Maybe some of both.

For my acne, I think my face is getting better. It has a ways to go,
but since I stopped the meds, the texture of my face has gotten so much better. I think it's because I'm not putting harsh drying stuff on it. I'm just using Kiss My Face natural products - including an acne gel they have that contains tea tree oil. They say that tea tree oil is about as effective as benzoyl peroxide and doesn't have the side effects of benzoyl peroxide. Pretty cool! I'll give it a few more days and see how it's looking. Several pimples are coming to whiteheads, which I think is good. That means they are coming to the surface and can start to heal, right?

Today I bought some natural makeup, too. I can't believe I've been using so many chemicals and stuff on my skin all these years - I never even gave it a second thought. I bought bareMinerals. I know they are plastered all over with infomercials and stuff, but they are pure, natural products and I like that. I'll let you know how they work. They get good reviews...

Sadie - Yeah - I agree that lifting weights during the cleanse isn't a good idea. I know that people do it. But I believe that you need protein to rebuild muscle and we're not getting that on the cleanse. The cleanse isn't "building mode" for our bodies, but rather "repair mode" - so easy exercise is probably best. I did a 60 min jog today - not fast at all. I just feel so good after I do it. I've just been in a super mood today - like you! I did get a little wiped out and needed a nap a little later, but that's okay. Fortunately it's Saturday and I can do that :) I want to get into a workout routine after I break this cleanse. I tend to do really great, and then drop off and do nothing at all. So my goal is consistency. I don't have to kill myself, but I don't want to do nothing at all, either.

Random - No worries on rambling :) If this was my first cleanse, I
would be posting a ton! At this point for me, it's more of a routine checkpoint to keep me focused. And I do believe it helps. Just getting posts from you and Sadie keeps me going! Today I didn't have food temptations, so that was nice. As long as I don't have food in front of me, I don't think about it. But if I have to deal with the temptation, my resolve quickly weakens. You are strong and awesome if you can prepare foods for someone else and stick to this!!

Day 8 - 9/27/2009
Starting weight: 138.5
Today's weight: 131.0 (up 1.5 pounds!)
Starting waist meas: 31.25 inches
Tody's waist meas: 29.5
Goal weight: ~110 to 120
Pounds lost: 7.5
Pounds to go: 11 +
Exercise: none

So I am up 1.5 pounds today. :( I have seen this before and it is usually due to the SWF or my period coming up. So double whammy today! I did a SWF yesterday - so think I am retaining water from that. And I also got my period today - which I wasn't expecting for another week! So I'm sure I'm retaining some water there, too. The good news is that I'm sure to see a big drop in the next day or so.

I was thinking that my period is probably causing some of the acne flare up so it will be interesting to see how much it clears up over the next few days. I'm really hoping to stay off the meds and go all natural!!

Anywho... Day 8 and still hanging in there. Hasn't been too tough, but haven't been around tempting food :) It's a rainy day here in NYC so I'm enjoying a relaxing Sunday. I'm focusing on drinking a lot of water today to combat the water retention. Hoping to see that reversed tomorrow morning. Interestingly, my waist measurement is down a bit today. That would tell me that I've lost some fat in my waist, but have some extra pounds of water lurking in other areas. So for anyone doing this, you may want to track a measurement or 2 along with your weight. I've never done this before because i was skeptical, but today was a slight surprise so glad I did it.

Take care everyone. And much peace.

WOOHOO DAY 8! 8)

Looks like you and I both have potential issues with the SWF - I started in the middle of my period and retained a good chunk of water. Having done the SWF yesterday, my weight didn't budge at all!

I imagine the combination of the SWF AND water tension from your monthly friend is attributing to this. Keep your chin up - your period will eventually be done with and you won't be holding onto excess water soon enough!!! :D

Note: Hope this doesn't happen to you but for me I started mine last friday and it usuuually stops after 4-5 days... it's 8 days and I'm still spotting, nothing worthy of a tampon or pad, but it's interesting to say the least..

The combination of the hormones and acne is likely - but maybe this cleanse may be trying to push on out some toxins in the layers of skin? Blind guess 8)

The medical community also notes that women will likely be much hungrier when their friend arrives for the month... Considering you're not really hungry today - way to goo!!!

BOOYAH - how many days you going for again?

Hi Random - Interesting that you say that the monthly friend can make you hungry. Because tonight I'm feeling stronger than usual cravings. Kind of bugging me. It's already 9:30pm so I'll make it through the day, but I hope tomorrow isn't this bad or it could be a long day. I need to renew by resolve here to get to my goal!

I hope the acne is toxins coming out from the cleanse - or hormones from my period - so that it will clear up soon. If it doesn't show signs of improvement, I'm not sure how long I can go with my face so broken out. But I'm hanging in there for now.

I'm not sure how many days I'm going to go on the cleanse. I was going to go until I hit 119 pounds if I can do it. I just don't know how long it will take. I also have a 30 mile bike ride for charity next Sunday - and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it on lemonade alone. So I may need to break the cleanse sometime this week so I can be ready to take in solid food on Sunday. We'll see. If the week goes well and I can keep going, I'll do the bike ride with a bunch of lemonade. I'll take some premix with me on my bike and can just add water. I'm actually more worried about the temptation - there will be food and stuff all over the place - that will be the hard part :)

Hope your day 8 is coming to a nice close. Only 2 more days to make it to 10!! When I did my 20 day cleanse, it somehow felt easier after that 10 day mark - because I kept telling myself I could quit at any time. That made it easier to just keep going another day, and then another day, until I hit 20 days.

Take care,
Marsha

Oh wow a charity bike ride too eh? I can't wait to hear how you get through that hehe..

And yes, it is true that women do get stronger than usual hunger pangs at the beginning/onset of that time of the month - then the pangs dissapear sharply... This was news to me too - explains a lot though!

119 pds is totally and completely doable, it sounds like you may have to do some additional time to get that down depending on how you lose.

IF you plan on breaking the cleanse for a day or two how would you go about doing so? easing into solids or just having a few solids then next day going back? I have yet to see any blogs mentioning they've gone through a week or two, had a solid day, then went back? Wonder if that funks up the cleanse?

Anywho, can't wait to see yours and my weigh in's tomorrow, I didn't budge in weight and you gained a bit, SO not doing swf for a while :)

Hope you lose some water weight!

Raffinator :P

How are you guys doing? I am on day 9 and my hunger has definitely returned. Yesterday I was dying, today I am merely starving...You both mentioned increased hunger so I guess this is normal. Are you hanging in there? Almost done! :D

I like your journal!

I'm "starting" the cleanse tomorrow, I took my laxative tea just a few minutes ago, and can't wait to start sipping on my lemonade :? lol. Though I'm a little nervous about how I'm going to measure out the 1/10 tsp of cayenne pepper since I have nothing that measures that small. It's nice cuz my bf and I are doing it together, so we'll be able to support each other.

Sadie - It's odd, I had no hunger pangs before.. I think its the craving to chew on anything is what it is.. I was the earlier days..hmm I wonder if it has something to do with taste testing (no chewing or swallowing) of something not too long ago o_O... Hmm

Well tomorrow is day 10 we'll see if it's been alleviated...

Day 9 - 9/28/2009
Starting weight: 138.5
Today's weight: 129.5 (down 1.5 pounds!)
Starting waist meas: 31.25 inches
Tody's waist meas: 29.25
Goal weight: ~110 to 120
Pounds lost: 9
Pounds to go: 9.5 +
Exercise: ~45 min jog/run

Today my hunger/cravings weren't as bad as yesterday, so that was nice. I went for a run and had no energy at all. I was going to go for 60 min, but I got to about 45 min and was feeling exhausted and almost shaky. I had to take a nap after. So I'm going to take it easy until I feel a little more energy. I'm back down to 129.5 after the weight gain yesterday. So the water appears to be coming off. Hope do continue downward tomorrow. Tomorrow is DAY 10!!!!

Random - I guess I wasn't thinking about breaking the cleanse for just a day or two. I thought I would break it properly by doing 2 days of OJ, etc. And then I would go back on another cleanse for as long as I need to in order to lose the weight. But I'd prefer to stay on this cleanse. It takes so much energy and motivation to get started - and I've made it so far - I just hate stopping before I'm to my goal! It will be that much harder to start another cleanse.

Sadie - Only 1 day to go - Day 10 is almost here!!! We'll make it no problem. I am going to keep going as long as I can - just take it one day at a time.

Kndred - Good luck on your cleanse! It seems long at first, but now Day 10 is approaching for me and it somehow feels like it flew by. Strange how that works. Regarding the 1/10th tsp of cayenne - I use 1/8 tsp instead. It is a little more, but I've read that more is better. And it sure is easier to measure :) That's great that you'll have support from your BF. Support really helps - that's why I like these forums. The first few days are the hardest in the respect that you may get headaches and have some withdrawal symptoms, but it does get better after that. I can't believe it, but it actually does get easier. All the best.

Take care all!

Marsha

Well, I'm glad your hunger pains have quieted down. Mine have not haha. I mean, I am hungrier than I have ever been in my life! I never would have thought the last couple of days would be the hardest but... I am dying here! I know, just one more day. I am going to finish it but wow, I really can't wait to eat. The upside, I am very clear on the difference between physical and mental cravings now :D Glad all is going well for you and yay, Day 10!
