I usually start the year off with a cleanse but this year I had so much going on that I didn't have the time to just relax and take care of me first. I've done a lot of cleanses through out the years and my longest was 53 days. I've done a 50 dayer. A couple of 40 dayers. And plenty of 21 dayers. This time, I'm going to shoot for 21 days. But if I feel better, I will stay on longer.

Well, tonight I'm starting my tea. Got chocolate smooth move tea with me. I'm planning on doing water fast all day tomorrow until I get home as I will be traveling from Virginia to Hawaii. I've been on vacation since the 8th and I feel it's time to get this body cleansed. So, if you're starting tomorrow as well, let's do it together. Remember, we will eat again.

Hi pretty1414:)

I'd like to start today but I just realized I only have 6 lemonades and I can't go out to get more cause of my schedule. I have 3 grapefruits and that's what I'm going to juice today then start my lemon tomorrow.

You must be a very disciplined person to be able to do this several times! I wish I can do that too... 21 days.

I'll be watching your thread for inspiration.. Good luck, pretty!!

Hey Pretty! I'm on Day One with you today. Planning on a 10 day, but we'll see how it goes. I've never gone more than 10 but would LOVE to try (making no promises though!)

Hi guys, well yesterday was pretty rough. With traveling on water fasting it was pretty tough. I slept most of the way here. With 2 stops to get out and get more water. Whew. I had to teach a Zumba class yesterday after i got off the plane. Wrong move. Got light headed afterwards because I teach 2 classes back to back. Zumba and R.I.P.P.E.D. So, last night I got all my ingredients that would last me hopefully 6 days. Total cost... $126.00. Boo hoo!!! but this is the cost of doing something good for your body. I had the Smooth Move tea last night at around 10:30p.m. and was lights out after.

This morning, I woke up with cramps and I needed to run to the bathroom. Had my first bowel movement. I went back to bed at about 4:25a.m. and was up at 6:30a.m. to do the salt water flush. Had 2 movements after I did the flush. Made my juice for the day. Now, I'm at work. Hoping that today will be better.

For those of you that are struggling. Take out some old pictures of you and put them somewhere, so whenever you want to give up, just think of how slim you look back then. lol. Oh and always remember, you have to give up eating for at least 10 day out of the 365 days out of the whole year. You will eat again. But you will look fabulous and you will be doing your body a favor. Hang tight you guys. Hang in there. Be stubborn with it and best of luck to all of you!

Hi Amii, how are you? You still on it? Proud of you. Let's keep going and keep each other accountable. I'm so ready and I'm going to do this. No ifs ands or buts about this.

Just for your information. I wanted to post this so you can understand the fasting process better and maybe it will help motivate you to stay on it longer. WHOOP WHOOP!!!

Detoxification Stages

Here is an overview of the detoxification stages during a juice fast. The time periods are a general estimation:

Stage 1 (Day 1 To Day 2)
On the first day of fasting, the blood sugar level drops below 70 mg/dl. To restore the blood to the normal glucose level, liver glycogen is converted to glucose and released into the blood. This reserve is enough for half a day. The body then reduces the basal metabolic rate (BMR). The rate of internal chemical activity in resting tissue is lowered to conserve energy. The heart slows and blood pressure is reduced. Glycogen is pulled from the muscle causing some weakness. The first wave of cleansing is usually the worst.

Headaches, dizziness, nausea, bad breath, glazed eyes and a heavily coated tongue are signs of the first stage of cleansing. Hunger can be the most intense in this period unless the enema is used which quickly assists the body into the fasting state by ending digestion in the colon.

Stage 2 (Day 3 To Day 7)
Fats, composed of transformed fatty acids, are broken down to release glycerol from the gliceride molecules and are converted to glucose. The skin may become oily as rancid oils are purged from the body. People with problem-free skin may have a few days of pimples or even a boil. A pallid complexion is also a sign of waste in the blood. Ketones are formed by the incomplete oxidation of fats. It is suspected that the ketones in the blood suppress the appetite by affecting the food-satiety center in the hypothalamus. You may feel hungry for the first few days of the fast. This effect is temporary. The desire to eat will disappear. Lack of hunger may last 40 to 60 days, depending on whether you are on water or juice.

The body embraces the fast and the digestive system is able to take a much-needed rest, focusing all of its energies on cleansing and healing. White blood cell and immune system activity increases. You may feel pain in your lungs. The cleansing organs and the lungs are in the process of being repaired. Periodically, the lymphatic system expels mucoid matter through the nose or throat. The volume excreted of this yellow-colored mucus can be shocking. The sinuses go through periods of being clogged, then will totally clear. The breath is still foul and the tongue coated. Within the intestine, the colon is being repaired and impacted feces on the intestinal wall start to loosen.

Stage 3 (Day 8 to Day 15)
On the latter part of an extended fast, you can experience enhanced energy, clear-mindedness and feel better than you have felt since childhood. On the downside, old injuries may become irritated and painful. This is a result of the body's increased ability to heal during fasting. If you had broken your arm 10 years before, there is scar tissue around the break. At the time of the break, the body's ability to heal was directly related to lifestyle. If you lived on a junk-food diet, the body's natural healing ability was compromised.

During fasting, the body's healing process is at optimum efficiency. As the body scours for dead or damaged tissue, the lymphocytes enter the older, damaged tissue secreting substances to dissolve the damaged cells. These substances irritate the nerves in the surrounding region and cause a reoccurrence of aches from previously injured areas that may have disappeared years earlier. The pain is good as the body is completing the healing process. The muscles may become tight and sore due to toxin irritation. The legs can be the worst affected, as toxins accumulate in the legs. Cankers are common in this stage due to the excessive bacteria in the mouth. Daily gargling with salt and water will prevent or heal cankers.

Stage 4 (Day 16 to Day 30)
The body is completely adapted to the fasting process. There is more energy and clarity of mind. Cleansing periods can be short with many days of feeling good in between. There are days when the tongue is pink and the breath is fresh. The healing work of the organs is being completed. After the detoxification mechanisms have removed the causative agent or render it harmless, the body works at maximum capacity in tissue proliferation to replace damaged tissue. While a short fast will reduce the symptoms, a longer fast can completely heal. Homeostatic balance is at optimum levels. The lymphatic system is clean except for a rare discharge of mucus through the nose or throat. After day 20, the mind is affected. Heightened clarity and emotional balance are felt at this time. Memory and concentration improve.

Stage 5 (Breaking the Fast)
The sticky, toxic, mucoid coating on the intestinal wall is loose, and the first meal frees it from the intestinal wall. Toxins enter the blood through the colon. The gallbladder dumps its waste in a heavy discharge of bile. This can cause an instant bowel movement upon eating followed by intense diarrhea. If the symptoms are too uncomfortable, an enema will help.

Autolysis

After fasting for several days, the body goes into a condition known as "autolysis". This is when the body starts to feed on itself because you are giving it no solid food to feed off of. Fortunately, the body in it's brilliant design feeds on only the weak, diseased, dying, or dead cells. All of the vital organs, the heart, liver, kidneys, and the brain are spared and because of the absence of all of the sickly cells in your body, your vitals are actually rejuvinated and made healthier because of the clean bloodstream and unadulterated oxygen now circulating throughout your body.

Hi Pretty, sounds like your prepared for anything now :!: Thanks for the repost, Shiva is such a support here, I re-read her posts alot for inspiration, and repost them alot too. My first and longest was 28 days. I had only planned 10, but felt so good kept going with lots of encouragement from Shiva and Crystal too. Wish they would stop in soon and say hello, or be on a cleanse with us. Are u in touch with them, I think they live in Hawaii also?

Questions:
1. When you did your longer cleanses, did you add greens juices, nutrients, or other items to the program?

2. I read your profile, your being a fitness trainer, what do you advise for hernia? I overdid digging in my garden, and in lots of pain, started wearing a support for abdomin and slowed way down, any other advice?

Yesterday was the worst day ever. And it was to be expected. Anyway, woke up with the worst headache ever. After the salt water flush, I went right back to bed. God up and drink 2 full glasses of the LA but with 2 extra teaspoons in each glasses. Felt fine afterwards. But when I went to teach my class, I felt nauseous and light headed. Long story short. I blacked out in front of my class. No good. I had some water and gatorade when I was conscious. Then went home and my boyfriend brought me some chicken noodle soup. Ate some of that and went right through me. So, I'm off until tomorrow. Since tomorrow, I only have one class. And I will have the weekend to just rest. I got a sub for all my classes for Monday and Tuesday so i will be back on the bandwagon.

Anyway, for those of you that are still on the cleanse. Keep going and great job hanging in there. I WILL get through this hump and I WILL complete the cleanse. And that IS MY PROMISE!!!

Alright Round 2... Starting again today. Feels great already. I fell asleep last night and didn't drink the tea so I did it this morning. I'm waiting on a BM. If it doesn't happen, I'm going to start my drink in an hour. Been drinking water all morning. I will do the Salt Water flush later this evening. Have my tea and then lights out.

Today, I'm working and I will have only one class tonight. So, I should be ok. Then I have the whole weekend to relax and rest. Have fun you guys. Hang in there. We're all in this together. Stay focus on your goals.

Sounds like we might be on the same day..today is my Day 4, first day without a piercing migraine..thank goodness :D

I don't understand this part that you posted above for days 3-7
"The desire to eat will disappear. Lack of hunger may last 40 to 60 days, depending on whether you are on water or juice. "

I've never had that happen? Although the hunger isn't too bad because I can fix it with a drink...my desire to eat gets maddening!! Last year, I thought my mind was going to explode and caved early (day 15 on a 21 day cleanse). This is my 4th cleanse and although I'm fighting the urge to eat the whole time, it becomes unbearable after day 15. I always assumed it was my body demanding to eat (even though I have tons of pounds to spare).

So, now I'm curious...does everyone else sail through without that desire to eat??

Most days no hunger pains, especially after the 3rd day. When I have to cook, I get seconds or minutes of weakness, but usually deal with these by leaving the kitchen, drinking some juice, then, getting busy doing something else.

Hi Pretty,

You had the most inspiring set of posts a few years back when I did my first 21 Day MC. I'm glad to see you on here again. After I stopped, I kept looking back to see how you were doing. I don't remember the exact year, but I remember you were a Rockstar. I couldn't believe how much you worked out during your 50+ day cleanse.

May I ask, how was life after that huge cleanse. With your active lifestyle, were you able to keep the weight off?

In any case, you are an inspiration! Hope this 3/19 cleanse is going as great or better than the previous.
