Does suffering while on MC have a use? I used to think there was no use to it, but now I think there is. Suffering can be good medicine. While on a fast we use poison, our difficulties, as medicine. It’s as if there’s a moment of suffering that occurs over and over and over again in every human life. What usually happens in that moment is that it hardens us; it hardens the heart because we don’t want any more pain. But it will help while on MC if you can take that very moment and flip it. The very thing that causes us to harden and our suffering to intensify can soften us and allow us to have a better day.

This takes a lot of courage. Fasting is a program for people who are willing to cultivate their courage. What’s wonderful about it is that MC will give you plenty of material to work with. If you’re waiting for only the high points to work with, you might give up, but there’s an endless succession of suffering while cleansing the body. Dissatisfaction is inherent in being human; it’s not some mistake that you or I have made as individuals. Therefore, if we can learn to catch that moment, to relax with it, dissatisfaction doesn’t need to keep escalating. In fact it can become the seed of self compassion, the seed of loving kindness towards one's process on MC.

The heart literally responds to this practice. You can feel it responding physically. As you breathe in what is difficult to bear, there is initial resistance, which is the fear, the constriction. That’s the time when you really have to be brave. But if you keep going and keep practicing, your heart will relax. This is quite amazing to feel.

When we fast we often have ideals we think we’re supposed to live up to. We feel we’re supposed to be better than we are in some way. But on MC you take yourself completely as you are. Your dissatisfactions of yourself that you bring to the cleanse, and the pain you endure during the process, will heighten your awareness of exactly where you’re stuck in your life, or with your body. Instead of feeling you need some magic makeover so you can suddenly become some great person, there’s much more emotional honesty about where you’re stuck the fast can teach you.

You begin to see as each day passes on the cleanse, that your work is right ahead of you all the time. Then a kind of unstuckness starts to happen. You develop lovingkindness and compassion for this self that is stuck, with your fifty pounds of overweight, or your candida infection that will not go away. You have a sense of all the other people on the forum here who are stuck just like you, and this fast begins to awaken your compassion. We are not connected here on this forum because of our perfection, but because of our flaws. Knowing this is such relief.

All the darkness of human beings is a shared thing from the beginning of time. Let this understanding open up your heart, let it open up your world on your cleanse today. Let this fast help you to think bigger. Rather than letting it depress you, allow it to make you feel part of the whole.

Hello my “fellow sufferers,” I call us that because that’s often how it feels on MC. We aren’t angels, we aren’t saints, we’re all facing this day, doing the best we can. We’re trying to be good people, but we really do face incredible challenges. For some of us the fast becomes the beginning of our spiritual path, we begin looking for the answers. We become willing to work with our negativity.

When you fast you will face moments where you are not able to entertain your self out of the pain. The usual exits, the usual ways of distracting yourself, are not available to us anymore. You can't stuff your feelings with a cheeseburger. There's nothing wrong with negativity per se, that comes up for us while on the fast, there's actually a lot we can learn from it. It is a very strong creative energy. The real problem is negative negativity, which is when you don’t just stay with negativity but spin off into all the endless cycle of things you can say to yourself about it. Like I hate the SWF, I will NEVER do it again. It makes me barf! Or whatever story line you spin off into about the unpleasantness of your cleansing program. What gets us is the spinoff. If you could just sit with the basic feeling then you could free yourself, but it’s almost impossible if you’re caught up in one mental drama after another. This is what we must let go of to have a successful cleanse.

What we call negative energies—such our anger, lust and jealousy- these powerful energies—are all actually wisdoms in disguise. But to experience that you have to not spin off; you have to be able to relax with the energy.

So fasting, can be considered to be more of a mental practice. It is our entry into being able to sit with that kind of energy. Know you are not alone, everyone on a fast today in the entire world is in the same boat you are in. Eventually you will find great joy coming out of this. The joyous thing I always feel from my fasts is that I feel more open, I feel more openness toward people in my world.
I think this is the result of going the distance in your own heart—really being disciplined about opening your heart as much as you can. Your fast is like finding yourself in a closed room, and it's whole purpose is to open the door. Each day you stay on course, you will have to keep opening it The fast will keep you honest. The inspiration that comes from feeling the openness seems so important, but on the other hand, I’m sure it would eventually turn into some kind of spiritual pride or arrogance. So life has this miraculous ability to smack you in the face with a real humdinger just when you’re going over the edge in terms of thinking you’ve accomplished something. That humbles you; it’s some kind of natural balancing that keeps you human. At the same time the sense of joy does get stronger and stronger

When we fast it helps to breathe in suffering and breathe out relief and healing. Breathing in what is the most difficult, allows us to own it, to get to know it, to feel it out. To bring it into yourself. Think of all the people who don’t think that there is any darkness in them. There are millions of people who think they don’t have any darkness. But it’s something that we all have, and part of the problem is that we’ve been pushing all this stuff away and denying it, so of course it’s the biggest shadow you can imagine. That’s what’s clobbering us when we do MC, it's everything we've been pushing away. Doing MC is like taking off something that’s been covering your eyes and hindering your ability to see. It’s overcoming your fear of what’s painful, although actually your fast opens you to both joy and suffering. If you aim your fast just at joy, then when suffering comes you will think you blew it! We quit because we feel we can't live up to the instructions. That’s very common. People want it all on the joy side or the success side. Then when the mood changes, or the energy changes, you feel that you’ve made some mistake or you’re a failure. So our fast must include all of that.
On MC there is nothing that can happen to you that you can’t use. It takes a while to get the hang of that, but when you start to hear yourself saying “bad dog” or whatever, you stop right there and acknowledge what you’re feeling and the billions of other people feeling the same way. Somehow that shakes up our ways of getting stuck.

Never be ashamed of yourself if you are not able to stay with your fast. We are all just ordinary human beings. What is a little unusual about those of us who experiment with MC is that we are willing to try the fast, even if it's just for a day or two.

It’s also important to accept and even embrace the fact of our imperfection. Our imperfection is probably our one perfection

Remember when the going gets tough on your fast, that often what we consider to be a crisis is not really a crisis at all. It is the labor pains of your spirit being birthed out of the death of the old you. The one you are fasting to let go of. Your fast can help you to become more spiritually integrated with the inner and an outer you. Ditch the crisis mentality. Do not accept fear, refuse to be locked into it. Each day on your fast is about facing the tussle between your ego’s old ways, and the formation of your inner self empowered by spirit. You CAN do this. Each moment you discipline yourself to stay on your fasting course you enter a silent but invigorating journey as you wrestle your ego into submission, melting it via the inner journey!

My dear Soleil,
Hi Sunshine. So now you see that the fast is about far more than just not eating and drinking lemonade. It is about controlling your ego and focusing your consciousness on your inner spirit. When you do this the inconsistencies embedded in your personality are reflected back to you. You don't even know why you crashed the fast, it was just a knee jerk reaction. In time you will find that the urge to crash, passes in about five minutes. All you need to do is breathe and do anything but... anything but the old behavior that does not serve you. When you do this, your spiritual energy will grow. This is what is known as transcendence. Transcendence will take you from the phony part of you to the depths of what is real in you. Let your fast help you to shed the old self. I think you will find the process invigorating and liberating, but like ointment on a cut, it might sting a bit. Everyone who starts a fast will find bits of themselves that havn't pledged allegiance to the process. It helps if you can be completely honest with yourself. Write down your fasting goals and align your consciousness with the part of you that wants to heal. Fasting is an ayurvedic healing remedy, that requires complete honesty. Only you know what brings you to your cleanse. It is this truth that gets you through tough moments. Truth is vital if you want to progress on your journey. It is not about being moral, it's about getting a grip on your personal power and realizing your full potential. I am sure much of what you believe about yourself is highly inaccurate. If we don't learn to control our shadow sides, they tow us around forever.

Love,
Shivabliss

From mental discipline and alignment to your spirit, you begin to control your levels of resistance to your fasting process. Each day you sucessfully stay on your fast you are taken out of the normal mindset of mankind, which is very fearful most of the time. You step to a new and more courageous place. If you step toward your spirit it embraces you and creates a spiritual cocoon that gradually expresses itself in your etheric energy, making you safer. As you touch it, feel it, and live within it, it's inherent serenity pervades your being. Your fast can litterally raise your vibration and move you out of the lower oscillations of etheric which removes you from harm's way.

As I said, in controlling your ego, you tend to melt it. It feels very threatened by it's loss of power. But you have to lose yourself in order to rediscover yourself again. Once the security of spirit flows through you, you see how mental discipline heals your life.

Eventually your ego will relax on your fast, once it see's that the new driver of your personal bus is as steady as a rock. The by product of spirit is perception, you no longer have to guess which direction to take each day on MC- you will have advance information. You will know what to do.

Your fast requires a great deal of introspection. You need to get in touch with the inner you. It will gain strength as you focus upon it. Allow your mind to get quiet on your fast. When we quiet our egos, the light of spirit can shine through, and give your inner self new life.

Your spirit is immensely powerful, but will have very little power to help you on your fast until it is freed from the debilitating racket made by your intellect. It is the spirit that gives you energy and provides the vision to see you through on your cleanse.

On my forty day fast, one day I awoke and suddenly my inner self was not completely blind. Realizations came thick and fast, I was no longer in my own way.

As you stay on your cleanse you will find that each step along the way will invigorate you. You will become inspired to keep going. Sometimes when you are in the early stages of your program you will come up against a rock face, you will wonder "Which way now?" "What next?" You will feel that you get no real answers. Things don't open for you the way you feel they should. This is because you only have a very limited depth of perception while on the climb.

The secret is this: HOLD ON!

While scaling the rock face of MC you will need every ounce of energy to hold on. Through a simple lack of determination you can easily fall off your fast. Falling back to the mundane place you found yourself before you began your journey. As you try to leave the wave it has a way of reaching for you, attempting to call you back. Sometimes ridiculing you for what it perceives as the silliness of your attempts- which it doesn't understand. The way things were before your fast began, have been that way for a long, long time. You will have a desire to look back because, after all, that was home for a long time. So your tendency to drift back is a natural psychological tug that disrupts your climb to success on the cleanse and rattles your security each day. IF you are not careful- down you fall.

While on MC- the lessons are simple: While climbing the rock face, recognize it as such. Recognize that because your vision is limited you will not be able to see far into the future. The best thing to do is to concentrate on your climb.

To really change your consciousness, which is the best gift of a long term fast, you need peace, balance, and time to reflect. Fasting can help to consolidate the power within you. For now, don't worry about any of this. Just know that you are on the climb, your fast is important and sacred- and what you are doing at this moment is the climbing- nothing else. Simplify your life and support yourself anyway you can. Be patient, the results you seek will come in time. Eventually you will become stabilized at a much higher vibration.

Once the thousand day climb is over- and you will know exactly which day that is- you reach the first plane of understanding. Because the changes within you have become consolidated. They belong to you and they are you.

Thank you both Ariel777 and Rapunzel for connecting with me, and letting me know that you are there. I think sometimes that is all any of us ever need, is just a little reassurance.

Don't let the fast irritate you. As you perservere to your fasting goals you will find that the power of our spirits always erode the power of the ego. The healing process is on it's way- you gather momentum.

As individuals we often feel small and insignificant. We begin our fasts and feel as vulnerable as a kitten on a freeway.

The fast will crumble the old you, by stretching you mentally. It will lead you up the scale of consciousness to higher and higher plateaus and your regular attitudes will disappear completely. That frightened little kitty in you, begins to roar like the true LION you were born to be.
