| Post subject: | Carbs on a Raw Diet |
Hi- I absolutely love carbs and after finishing the MC cleanse last year- I was able to sustain a raw diet for about 6 months before I caved into rice/cooked potatoe/etc. I'm doing the cleanse again this year and would love to know if there are any carb/starch lovers and what they do for substitutions. Thanks! |

For the meat eater: Lime Salad with Salmon, Sesame Chicken, Scallops, and Green Thai Curry with Garlic Herb Sauce, Chicken with Peanut Sauce, Honey Glazed Salmon, Buckwheat , Caramel Prawns, Pancakes with Egg Omelette. For the vegetarian: Veggie Cashew Rice, Mexican Rice and Beans with Avocado Wedges with Avocado and Salsa, Roasted Sweet Potato Salad, Veggie Patties, Apple Crumble, and Buckwheat Pancakes with Maple Syrup. For the rawist: Zucchini Pasta Pesto, Curry Lentil Sprout Salad, Raw Pizza, Spaghetti, Raw Ice Cream, Raw Donuts, Raw Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Raw Mousse, Raw Brownies. For the fruitarian: Fruit Cups, Fruit Salads, Recipes with Avocado, Fruit Smoothies, Mousse, Fruit Soups. |

There's absolutely nothing wrong with rice cooked potatoes. It is the quantity that gets you. You just can't eat that everyday. |

A good many raw foodists aren't 100% raw. Some eat small quantities of cooked foods, so if these rice and potatoes aren't triggers for you it would be OK to include them in smaller quantities. Both are loaded with vitamins so neither are horrible food choices for the average person as long as you don't load either with high calorie toppings neither are bad food choices. If you're simply looking for more ideas and good recipes this is, hands down, one of my favorite raw sites: http://www.choosingraw.com/ I second the zucchini pasta. If you get a spiralizer it's super easy to make. Paper thin slices of beet or butternut squash with a dollop of nut "cheese" and veggies make for excellent rawvioli. Raw lasagna can also be really delicious. In restaurants I enjoy some of these items gently warmed in a dehydrator, but you don't need one to make much of this at home. For a rice replacement, many use cauliflower or parsnip. When I'm making vegan sushi I actually prefer the parsnip rice, which tends to be just parsnips pulsed in the food processor with a liquid paste of almond butter and sushi vinegar (or other vinegar + a touch of raw sweetener) stirred in after the pulsing is complete. |
