Sun Cherry Butter

raw almonds (best if soaked overnight)
raw sunflower seeds
unsulfured dried cherries
nutritional yeast
sweetener of your choice (agave, honey, cane sugar, stevia, etc.)
optional: powdered lecithin
optional: cold-pressed flax oil

The measurements for this are given in parts, rather than cups and tablespoons, etc.

4 parts almonds (best if soaked overnight)
Process to coarse grind, then add & process:
4 parts sunflower seeds

Change blade as necessary, add:
2 parts nutritional yeast
2 parts dried cherries (or more to taste)
sweetener to taste
Optional: for smooth, moist butter, 1-2 parts flax oil
Optional: add ~ ½ part powdered lecithin

Process till you have a coarse nut butter. If you don’t have a food processor, this can be made using ready-made almond and sunflower seed butters, or nuts and seeds can be ground in coffee grinder.

This recipe is mine but I would refer you to for an archive of recipes and a blog to add your own. A page of interesting raw recipes is at

ButterNot Butter Replacer

The following is from a book called: God's Banquet Table (Lagerquist & Coghill)

1/2 cup cold-pressed flax oil
1 tablespoon powdered lecithin
1/2 cup nutritional yeast
salt to taste

Mix & chill.
This is fine without the lecithin (for those who are against it), though it adds a bit of texture and flavor. Nutritional yeast is usually salty enough without adding more salt, healthier too.

Another version is Flax Seed Butter

2 TBL flax seeds
2 TBL nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp honey (or other sweetener)
2 TBL water
pinch of salt (if desired)

Grind flax seeds and blend with other ingredients till smooth. As a topping for vegetables, potatos, etc., add seasonings such as: onion powder or minced onion, garlic, Vegit, and so on.
