Meanness is subjective ~ I think it's mean to judge people you don't know as they drive by you while you go on a walk as Anna did. I think it's mean to categorize a whole nation as greedy and lazy.
You sound well read in the things you listed and I am not disputing any of it. I don't know if that is coming across. I am writing from my own experience as opposed to things I've read. About half of my relatives come from Spain and half come from America. The ones from Spain are heavier than the American side. I'm married to a German man and half of his relatives are overweight. We live in England where obesity is a huge problem and is in the news every couple of weeks. Weekly tv shows are dedicated to it. The children are fat here too. Did America do that to the Spanish, Germans and English?? No. It's not just America, it's the whole western world.
So my point is as it was from the beginning: it's impossible to stereotype anyone because you nor Anna actually know everyone's situation. Whether it's an American or a European.
I saw Kelly Osbourne perform in the musical Chicago in London and she was really great! She looked great as well. But a stage debut looming and access to top quality trainers are more what got her weight down, as opposed to moving back to England where portions are smaller. It's just easier to lay the blame on the way a country feeds you rather than what you put into your own mouth.
It's all about taking responsibility for our own actions and I think we are both saying that.
