This morning begins day 2! I wasn't going to write one of these journey threads because I'm not particularly creative nor as interesting a writer as Kari (Karijo) whose thread about her 40 day juice/MC fast was so inspirational that it actually got me to take the plunge. However, I decided that even if nobody reads this I'll do it as on online diary for myself...

Day 1 - was much easier than I expected. The most fasting I have ever done was a few 1-3 day juice fasts so I have a lot of trepidation about this but my goal is a minimum of 14 days and hopefully longer. I took it easy all day after my morning workout and wasn't hungry. I'm lucky that I work from a home office so I don't have the holiday food temptations in a typical office environment and can make each lemonade fresh before I drink it. I'm 80/20 on the MC for weight loss so I only used 1 tbls of maple syrup in each lemonade but I still had no cravings for food. I did spend a lot of the day peeing! Towards the end of the day I felt a little light headed (almost a head ache) and a little bloated. I bought a tongue scraper before I started and found myself using it 3-4 times during the day/night as well as brushing at the same time. My mouth felt really yucky all day so my new girlfriend will not be getting any serious kissing action for the next few days, at a minimum :( It was not easy to fall asleep and I woke up 2-3 times during the night which I never do. So, I made it though and all-in-all it was a really good first day!

Some thoughts...I'm lucky because I live less than 5min. from a Whole Foods which is where I shopped even before starting the MC. They were out of Smooth Move regular but had 2 boxes of Smooth Move Chocolate left. I guess there are a lot of people here on the MC! <grin> I was a little reluctant to try the Chocolate version but after reading the contents (it has no chocolate in it) and realizing that it's just a tea (caffine free) I decided to try it. Surprise! it tasted pretty good and definitely worked. I plan to be 70% raw (thanks to Keri's raw un-cook book recomendations) when this is over and 95% vegetarian with some occasional fish. I'm a sushi lover and I'll probably not be able to resist that as I miss it already!

Day 2 - Woke up early (5:45am) and did my first SWF. I felt pretty nausous after I chugged it but managed to keep it down and 45 min. later had my first "butt pee". When my trips to the toilet are over it's off to the gym for 45mins. on the elliptical.

Tonight should be really interesting. I discussed my MC plan with my girlfriend before starting and she is really supportive. I was so worried that she would think I was a total wierdo! She is one of those people who has a perfect body and yet eats way more than I do! I'm 5' 11" and 223 she's 5'7" and 120 and I'm always saying "would you like to finish this?" as I offer her my plate. How's that for a switch in dating ettiquite? Of course she spends a lot of time in the gym but it's also GOT to be genetic. Anyway I did not want this MC to "interfere" with our time together and wanted our relationship to be as normal as possible so we are going out to dinner tonight but only one of us will be eating (guess who)! I'm not at all worried about the food temptation aspect of it only the wierdness of 2 people in a restaurant with one drinking mineral water/lemon while the other eats a big dinner!!!

So that's it for now...more tomorrow morning!

SHC,
I am so happy for you. Congratulations on completing your first day :D
I am also happy that you have someone who is very supportive of your efforts, that is so important. That SWF is no joke. I already can't sand it. It is the one part of the Cleanse that I don't look forward to. It seems as if we are both on the right track as far as symptoms. I think after my second lemonade I noticed my tongue was already turning color. So of course I had my husband do a tongue check. It is gross :( I just finished brushing, flossing and scraping.

It seems like we have so uch in common as far as our gaols and the people around us. Like your girlfriend, my husband is the same way. He is 5'8" and on a good day weighs 155. If he misses a meal he'll lose 1-2 pounds. I do that and I gain instead. He eats a lot of junk fook, he is a milk and cookie fan and wont gain a pound whereas I look at it and gain. :?

Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to "hearing" about another sucessful day 8)

I think I've gone post crazy today! Sorry to everyone and this is the last one I promise! I've decided to keep this thread as my personal journal and start a new group thread for anyone interested. Right now I know of hopefilled, Starbago, Earthman & thickythickgirl. Of course anyone else who started in the last few days or will start in the next few would be most welcome. I couldn't think of a great name so I went with "The Holiday Brigade". Yes, I know I stole "Brigade" from the 11/27 " Lemonade Brigade" group but I'm just not that creative :( I wanted it to be non-denominational so I couldn't use "Christmas Brigade or Yule Log Brigade", etc. so I went with the PC "Holiday". Forgive me all...

Day 3 (continued) - Well quite the day! I spent most of it resting, watching TV or reading until I went "post crazy"! Now I'm quite happy to be back at my journal. I've never kept a diary or journal before and it is really a HUGE help for me to write even if it's "to myself". I've been "wiped out" all day from tennis and that was definitely my last time on the court until I'm off the MC. It will be quite an adjustment since I play 3-4 times a week, every week. One of the joys of living in So. Fla. The other is being away from the Denver airport (I lived in Colorado before moving here)!

Today was a huge surprise!!! After last night (and how I felt this morning) I expected today to be really rough and it wasn't! I keep waiting for the "other shoe to drop" and it will probably happen when I least expect it but for now my experience has been really good and surprisingly easy. I've never fasted for more than 3 days before (juice fasts) so tomorrow will be entering new territory for me. I do feel a little "tight headed", almost a headache but it's not one and it's not unpleasant. I also feel really light in body and spirit. I guess dropping 5 lbs. doesn't hurt either! When I finish today I'll have had 7 lemonades total. Since I use only 1 tbls. of maple syrup (it says on the bottle that 4 tbls. = 200 cal.) I'll have taken in 650 cal. for the day. I know I expended more than that at tennis this morning so it should be a good day! I've also had 4 herbal teas (I keep changing the type) in between the lemonades. I find they really help keep my stomach settled, although I still have very mild cramps from time-to-time.

I started using baby wipes this morning (natural, unscented with aloe -of course) which I had never used before (I'm a man and don't ask for directions either) and it made a HUGE difference in comfort! I hope that wasn't too much info. but I highly recommend it!

I tried to set up my MC with the best possible chance for success. I decided on doing the it now so that I could not only avoid the holiday food/sweets excesses but simultaneously do something positive. I also love to watch the college bowl games so I'll have plenty to do during the next 12 days while I'm fasting and resting. My business is basically "on vacation" from now until 1/3 so I have this block of time with little to do. I usually travel over the holidays but this year I'm traveling down the detox/weight loss road instead. BTW, it's a lot less expensive :-) I'm amazed at the fact that I'm not hungry but I have started thinking about my favorite foods a lot. I hope I can make it to day 14!!!

Day 3 is almost over (I made it) and I'll be back again tomorrow...

Day 4 (continued) - Being in Whole Foods was a trip! I kept seeing all the things I want to eat when I'm finished with my MC, which seems like a really long time from now :( I walked out with my spring water, organic lemons and a jug of maple syrup (who knew how much of that stuff I'd be using). I kept wondering if someone would see the things in my cart and walk up to me in the check-outline to say "I know what you doing" :-) I found 3 "Holiday" decaf herbal teas that Celestial Seasonings puts out this time of year and decided to try the Gingerbread Spice and the Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride (when I opened the box it smelled JUST like a sugar cookie!!!) They were both interesting but I'm going to stick to the 2 mint teas I found because they seem to settle my stomach while these other herbal teas do not.

Just after I got home I had a unexpected surprise. A small BM with no help from a lax tea or SWF! I couldn't believe that in the middle of day 4 I had to go like everything was "normal"! I felt really, really good (very clear, a lot of energy and quite happy) ALL day with no headache (or even that tight feeling from before) and no discomfort. Even my mouth felt better, although my tongue is still disgustingly white. In a way I'm a little worried because as I understand detoxing it usually involves discomfort in one form or another. However, yesterday and today I've been having moderate heartburn, particularly in the back of my throat, which is obviously from the lemon and cayenne. I read a number of other threads where people had the same thing so I'm not to worried about it. I find that if I drink water when it comes up it pretty much goes away.

I spent most of the day resting, watching some football and then went for a jaccusi at 4:30. It felt GREAT and I highly recommend it! Is it just me or are there a zillion commercials on TV for food and for restaurants showing food? Also this morning in the gym I was watching the morning news while on the eliptical and there was about a 15 minute segment showing food being prepared, the finished result and people eating it while oo-ing and ah-ing about how good it was. ON THE NEWS! Maybe it's just the holidays but we really seem to be a food obsessed nation!!!

I'm off to a family dinner tonight. No temptation for me as I already passed the out-to-dinner test and I'll bring a lemonade so I can have something. Then it's home early and off to bed as I'm already tired. I just hope I can start getting a little more sleep...
